IVMA Membership – Together We’re Stronger

By: Lisa Perius, CAE
IVMA Executive Director

IVMA’s membership renewal period is underway for July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. As Executive Director, I’m often asked two simple but important questions: What does IVMA actually do? and Why should I renew—or join—this association?

They’re fair questions, and the answers matter.

What does IVMA do?
At its core, IVMA builds and supports a professional community.

Yes, we offer a wide range of tools and resources to support veterinarians throughout their careers—legislative monitoring, continuing education, legal guidance, industry data, updates on emerging trends, and resources that support wellbeing. But beyond the list of benefits, IVMA serves as a steady, reliable presence in your professional life.

Associations are sometimes compared to insurance—you may not think about them when things are going smoothly. The difference is that IVMA is not just there when challenges arise. We are a constant resource, advocate, and partner. For about 79 cents a day, you are part of an active, well-run organization that represents and advances veterinary medicine across Indiana.

Why renew your membership?
Renewing your IVMA membership is an investment in your career, your connections, and your profession. Here’s what that investment brings:

  • Community and connection: IVMA connects you with peers who share your commitment to veterinary medicine. These relationships often lead to collaboration, mentorship, and lasting professional friendships.
  • Credibility and recognition: Membership signals your dedication to staying informed, engaged, and active within your profession—something colleagues, clients, and employers notice.
  • Professional growth: Through continuing education, workshops, and conferences, IVMA helps you stay current with the latest advancements and best practices.
  • Advocacy: IVMA represents veterinarians at the legislative and regulatory levels, ensuring your voice is heard and your profession is protected.
  • Collaboration and shared insight: The association creates space for meaningful dialogue around common challenges and opportunities in veterinary medicine.
  • Support and resources: From legal assistance to practice management and wellness tools, IVMA helps you navigate the complexities of your career.

On a personal note, as someone who has spent a career in association management, I can’t imagine not belonging to my own professional association. It keeps me informed, connects me with peers across the country, and has led to relationships I deeply value.

After more than 29 years serving as your Executive Director, I’ve seen firsthand what makes IVMA membership truly meaningful:

  • Collegiality: The relationships you build with fellow veterinarians are among the most valuable aspects of membership.
  • Connections: Programs like Power of 10, LEAD, and the Crossroads Veterinary Conference create intentional opportunities to engage, learn, and grow together. These experiences are powerful—and lasting.

Thank you for your continued support and for being part of this community. Let’s keep the momentum going—together.
