Dr. Lindsey Hedges

Lebanon, IN

President

Dr. Lindsey Hedges is the Senior Director of Veterinary Mentorship at Mission Veterinary Partners. A 2011 graduate of Purdue CVM, she worked as an associate veterinarian for three years before opening her own denovo small animal clinic. In creating her practice, she was guided by her passions for fostering leadership in all employees, promoting Fear Free practices, & forming strong bonds in the community. She facilitated the Indiana VMA Power of 10 Leadership program since 2015 and was the Region 2 Representative to the IVMA Board of Directors. Lindsey is an avid board game geek and hosts monthly Dungeons & Dragons sessions with her friends. She lives in Lebanon, IN with her husband, two cats, and two dogs.

Dr. Greg Kurtz

Hagerstown, IN

Immediate Past President

Greg Kurtz, DVM is a livestock veterinarian and co-owner of Kurtz Veterinary Clinic in Hagerstown, IN.  Greg and his wife Robyn, who also is a veterinarian, graduated from Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine in 1982 and began practice in Hagerstown in 1983 after practicing one year in central Wisconsin. Kurtz Veterinary Clinic is a four doctor practice serving the livestock and pet owners of east central Indiana. Greg’s area of practice interest is cattle reproduction and dairy herd health consulting.  Greg services herds ranging in size from 40 to 6500 milking cows and herds that vary from grazing organic herds to confined herds milked by robotics.  Kurtz Veterinary Clinic also services several beef cattle elite genetic herds. Greg serves as an At Large Member to the IVMA Board of Directors since 2019 and serves on several task forces.  “I look forward to continuing the work of the IVMA in building relationships among all segments of the veterinary profession and strengthening our advocacy with the statehouse and government agencies.  We need to listen to the needs of our members and continue to provide services that meet those needs.” Greg is an active member of Zions’ Lutheran Church, Pershing; serves on the Board of Directors of Wayne County Farm Bureau, Indiana Farm Bureau Animal Care Policy Advisory Group, and is a member of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, Dairy Cattle Reproduction Council, and John Purdue Club.

Dr. Corey Swart

Kokomo, IN

Treasurer

Dr. Corey Swart is a native of Kokomo and is now the Managing DVM at Jefferson Road Animal Hospital/Cat Clinic of Kokomo where he grew up volunteering/working while pursuing his education.  He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Indiana University Kokomo then continued on to earn his DVM degree from Purdue University in 2008.  He enjoys treating dogs, cats, and pocket pets while also forming bonds with their owners.  Serving on various committees/boards has been valuable in helping him to serve his community and profession, some of which currently include IU Kokomo Animal Care & Use Committee, At Large Board Member of the IVMA, and treasurer for the Wabash Valley Veterinary Medical Association.  Dr. Swart participated in the IVMA Power of You program and outside of veterinary medicine he enjoys spending time with friends/family, exercising, attending car shows, and hanging with his Mini Bernedoodle, Oscar 🐾.  He looks forward to continuing to serve the IVMA and the veterinary community.

Dr. Kristi Kantz

Georgetown, IN

President - Elect

Dr. Kristi Kantz grew up in Troy, Michigan and currently resides in Georgetown, Indiana. She received an undergraduate degree from Wayne State University and earned her DVM degree from Michigan State University. Prior to joining the Especially Pets team, Dr. Kantz practiced in Michigan and Indiana. Her special interests include ophthalmology, dermatology, ultrasound, and dentistry.

Outside of work, Dr. Kantz enjoys horseback riding, walking her dogs, and reading. She is married with three children, while also caring for a variety of cats, dogs, horses, donkeys, and alpacas at home.

Dr. Tai Ogg

Michigan City

Region 1 Board Member

Dr. Tai Ogg is a small animal relief veterinarian and owner of Liri Animal Health. She is an Indiana native originally from the Northeast side of the state. She received her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Michigan State University. Dr. Ogg is a 2014 graduate of Iowa State University and University of Iowa with a dual Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master’s in Public Health. In 2021, Dr. Ogg became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. Dr. Ogg was part of the 2021 Power of 10 class and currently serves on committees within the IVMA. She is incredibly passionate about helping to change the profession for the better through supporting mental health and providing better support to new graduates.
Outside of her veterinary career, Dr. Ogg owns a small jewelry business and co-owns an event company. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, and gardening. She currently resides in Michigan City, IN with her three dogs.

Dr. Tammy Chastain

Alexandria, IN

Region 2 Board Member

Dr. Tamara (Tammy) Chastain earned her veterinary degree in 2003 from Purdue University.  She spent her first five years of practice in Sheridan, Indiana focusing on equine and small animal medicine.  She joined Alexandria Animal Hospital in 2008.  In early 2016, she had the opportunity to fulfill a long-time dream of becoming a practice owner and purchased Alexandria Animal Hospital.  She feels her mission is to promote veterinary medicine in a positive light to the community as well as future veterinary professionals and enjoys sharing her career with students. 

Dr. Chastain grew up in Sullivan, Indiana and now lives in the Summitville area with her husband, and their three sons.  Boxer (Callie), cats (Puddin’, Peanut Butter, Snickers, and Oreo), and Arabian horses (Chip and Tilly) round out their family. Outside of the veterinary clinic, Dr. Chastain keeps busy supporting her boys in their various activities and helping her husband with the family farm.  She is active in her church, and when she is lucky enough to find free time, she enjoys following Purdue basketball, mountain bike riding, spoiling her horses, hiking, fishing, and other outdoor activities.

Dr. Harley Robinson (PU ’79) Moving back

veterinary practice was a dream of
Dr.
Robinson’s while at Purdue. June of 1979 saw that dream come true. He has been in the same location since then.
With his wife, Jascia, they raised five children
and quickly became engaged and ingrained in the life and times of Dearborn and Ripley counties. Dr. Robinson believes that those who have been given much are obligated to return much in service to their community. Both he and Jascia have been active members of their church and
various community organizations for decades. In
the area of public health, Dr. Robinson has served on the Ripley County Board of Health for 37 years and continues to be engaged at the state level as a Board member of the Indiana Public Health
Association.
He has been a dedicated and active member of the District 9 IVMA since graduation, serving as president twice, and most recently as board representative to the IVMA. In 2019 the IVMA honored Dr. Robinson with the Lifetime Achievement Award. After 40 years, Dr. Robinson
says he knows that retirement is someday

inevitable, but he wishes to continue serving his
colleagues as an IVMA representative. He believes that through the work of the IVMA, the profession
will grow, strengthen and prosper.

Dr. Tony Rumschlag

Noblesville, IN

AVMA Alternate Delegate

Dr. Tony Rumschlag owns Rumschlag Veterinary Consulting, providing support and consultations with veterinary hospitals, related businesses, and investors in the veterinary pet health arena.

He attended Purdue University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science (’81) and then his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. Tony and his wife, Hella, moved to Atlanta, Ga where Tony gained experience as small animal practitioner. After five years of clinical practice, he shifted his career focus to the animal health industry holding a variety of medical support and managerial roles in the ensuing 25+ years. During his 11-year career at Hill’s Pet Nutrition Tony and his family moved back to Indiana. He transitioned from pet nutrition to pharmaceutical and vaccines product support with Merial (now part of Boehringer Ingelheim) in 1999, eventually moving into leadership role as Director for Veterinary Technical Services.

Tony was hired by Elanco in 2006 to start the Pet Health Consulting Veterinarians team which he grew and led for 15 years prior to joining the Elanco External Innovations team. His experience included oversight of post-approval studies and participating in the launch of many innovative new products into the veterinary profession to better manage disease conditions and improve the health of pets. He has maintained strong connections and relationships in many facets of veterinary medicine including state and national veterinary associations and veterinary colleges. Dr. Rumschlag has been invited to speak at several state and national veterinary conferences, as well as conferences in Southeast Asia. He loves connecting science to solutions for conditions and diseases affecting animals.

Tony has provided leadership in various state and national veterinary organizations continuously since moving back to Indiana in 1995. He is a past president of the IVMA (’08) and is a board member and past co-chair for the Indiana Animal Health Foundation. He served six years on AVMA’s Committee for Veterinary Technician Education and Activities including serving as Chair for two years. He also served ten years as a Board Member for the American Heartworm Society with three years as Vice President of the organization. He is a passionate supporter and champion for veterinary leadership development and for the efficient incorporation of veterinary nurses and technicians to improve practice culture and success.

In addition to his enthusiasm for veterinary organizations he enjoys spending time with his family, walking their senior dog Abby, woodworking, hiking, backpacking, kayaking, swimming, fishing, and fly tying.

Dr. Michele Roberts

Greenfield, IN

Dr. Michele Roberts is the Senior Director of Product & Veterinary Support at Elanco. She graduated from the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008 and worked as an associate veterinarian in a companion animal practice for 4.5 years before transitioning to industry. She has been a member of the CRVC working group since 2013 and is specifically interested in client communication, talent development, and shelter medicine.Dr. Roberts lives in Greenfield with her husband and their two teenagers. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, showing horses with her daughter, and watching her son play tennis.

Dr. Kayla Baird

Rushville, IN

Dr. Kayla Baird grew up on her family’s farm in Wadesville, Indiana. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Purdue University and then went on to get her veterinary degree from Purdue’s College of Veterinary Medicine. While in veterinary school, she represented Purdue in the SAVMA House of Delegates and then was elected to the National Executive Board as the Communications and Public Relations Officer. She graduated from Purdue CVM in 2021 and has practiced at Jackman Animal Clinic in Milroy, Indiana ever since. Dr. Kayla is a member of the AVMA, IVMA, AASV, AABP, AETA and IETA. She enjoys working with livestock as well as dogs and cats. She has a special interest in dairy and beef cattle medicine and reproduction including conventional embryo production and embryo transfer. She and her husband, Jared, live in Rush County where they have a small commercial cow calf herd. They also have three cats Charlotte, Stud, and Nug and their dog, Hank. In Dr. Kayla’s spare time, she likes being outside. You might see her on a bike or running on a country road. Both Dr. Kayla and her husband enjoy spending their weekends helping on their family farms. 

Phil Borst
Dr. Phil Borst

Indianapolis, IN

AVMA Delegate

Dr. Philip Borst is a 1975 graduate of Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. He has practiced small animal medicine at the Shelby Street Animal Clinic in Indianapolis since graduation. Dr. Borst is a past president of the Central Indiana Veterinary Medical Association and the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association. He currently serves as the alternate delegate from Indiana to the American Veterinary Medical Association House of Delegates.

Current civic activities include chairman of the Indiana Horse Racing Commission, member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame board, and chairman of the Big Ten Men and Women’s Basketball Tournament LOC. Dr. Borst also served for 28 years as an Indianapolis city-county councilman and as it’s president. He was also co-chairman of game management for the 2021 Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship all held in the state of Indiana and assistant tournament manager for the 2022 round one and two Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament in Indianapolis.

Muncie, IN and in 2017, he
became a practice owner. In late 2020, he partnered with Mission Veterinary Partners and serves as a Medical Director for 3 small animal practices in central Indiana.
Dr. Hobson has been a member of the IVMA since
the start of his career and is excited to expand his veterinary service as a board member for the IVMA. When he’s not at work, Dr. Hobson enjoys spending time with his wife, Libby, and their 3
daughters: Piper, Perry, and Josephine.

Dr. Jason Huff was born and raised in southwestern Indiana just outside the town of Vincennes. After graduating from the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000, he and his wife Angela moved to Greencastle, IN where they currently reside. They have two sons – Ben, who is currently a freshman at Purdue, and Owen who is currently a junior in high school. In addition to their two sons, they have one indoor cat, three dogs, seven barn cats and a menagerie of goats. Dr. Huff is a partner in West Central Veterinary Services which has mixed animal clinics in Greencastle, Rockville, Veedersburg, and Clinton. In his free time, Dr. Huff enjoys watching his boys show goats and play a variety of sports. When time allows, he and his family are also avid campers. This is Dr. Huff’s second stint on the board as he previously served from 2011 – 2017.
