Summary:

Our veterinarians manage all medical care for all ARF rescue shelter animals and Arf’s PAW Veterinary Clinic clients, upholding the organization’s mission.

We are a HVHQSN (high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter) not-for-profit clinic serving pets of low-income pet owners.

Currently, on average, we perform 20 surgeries per day per veterinarian and see about 20 patients for wellness appointments and vaccinations per day per veterinarian.

Responsibilities:

  • Personnel
    1. Functional supervision of all staff who assist in animal care

    3. Ensures that all animal care programs are administered humanely and according to the ARF mission.
  • Public Relations/Community Outreach
    1. Represents ARF and arf’s PAW Veterinary Clinic as the animal care medical expert
    2. Attends events as requested by the Director and Board
  • Budgeting and Procurement
    1. Works with the Board and Director to create and adhere to the annual operating budget.
    2. Advises the Board and Director on vendors, prices and discounts regarding procurement of medical supplies and equipment for ARF and arf’s PAW Veterinary Clinic.
    3. Creates purchase requisitions and places orders for all medical supplies and equipment for ARF and arf’s PAW Veterinary Clinic. Purchases exceeding $500 require Director and Board review and approval.
  • Programs
    1. Takes a lead role, along with the Director, on the development and implementation of all ARF and arf’s PAW Veterinary Clinic animal care and clinic programs.
    2. Working with the Director, monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of programs and participates in problem-solving and quality improvement efforts for ARF and arf’s PAW Veterinary Clinic.
    3. Ensures that animal care and services are provided in accordance with current laws, rules, regulations and standards.
  • Long Range Strategic Planning

Job Summary

The Associate Veterinarian is an invaluable member of the hospital team. All of our DVM’s are part of the DVM Council. They are involved in the decision-making process for the care we provide. They will play an important role in the advancement of patient care, staff leadership, fiscal financial planning, client satisfaction, and practice growth.

Job Responsibilities

  • Builds rapport with clients by gathering information and listening to, and empathizing with their concerns
  • Performs physical examinations and diagnostic/medical/surgical/dental procedures that deliver the highest quality care while minimizing patient stress and discomfort.
  • Communicates with clients on topics such as pet diagnosis, treatment plans, preventive health care, and nutritional needs.
  • Maintains client/patient medical/surgical records and makes certain all necessary logs are kept up-to-date through established protocols.
  • Stays current on new medical information and changes in veterinary medicine.
  • Assists in the development of the paraprofessional team to ensure delivery of the highest quality care and exceptional client service.
  • Presents a positive image of the hospital in the professional community and to the general public.

Skills and Basic Qualifications

  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or related degree from an accredited university.
  • Licensure in good standing to practice in the state in which applicant is to be employed.

Southway Animal Hospital is looking for a full time associate to join our busy small animal practice in Marion, IN.  A new graduate would be warmly welcomed and mentored as much as desired.  Our practice is located in Grant County, IN, which is about one hour from Indianapolis and 45 minutes from Fort Wayne.  It is home to Indiana Wesleyan University and Taylor University as well as the Marion Symphony Orchestra and Civic theater, so there are many cultural and sporting events available.  The cost of living is low in Grant County and there is a $5000 grant available to new graduates who purchase a home in Grant County within 6 months of graduation.  There is a potential for future ownership for the right individual.

Southway has been established for over 40 years and is growing.  We enjoy a long term, stable, friendly staff and many loyal clients.  All after hours calls are referred to a nearby 24 hour emergency hospital, so you will never be on call.  Salary is generous with a guaranteed minimum and production percentage.  Benefits include SIMPLE IRA with a 3% employer match, 2 weeks paid vacation in the first year, 5 personal days, dues paid, and a stipend for health insurance purchase.  Full time is 36 hours  per week.
