Job Summary

Duties and Responsibilities

Advancing Medical Care

  • Oversees surgical and medical cases for all doctors, ensuring positive outcomes, accurate estimates, and client communication and education.
  • Answers client questions and concerns regarding medical and surgical procedures.
  • Provides oversight and direction of medical standards, quality of care and inventory.
  • Establishes medical protocols.
  • Oversees transfer of medical cases from doctor to doctor.
  • Minimizes waste and controls costs relating to medical supplies, surgical instruments, and drug inventories.

Leading Staff and Practice

  • Participates in the recruiting and interviewing process for Doctors, and when appropriate general staff members.
  • Monitors Doctor performance and production.
  • Develops and monitors hospital-specific client compliance protocols and procedures.
  • Participates in technician appraisal and medical counseling sessions.
  • Ensures all medical staff receive applicable training, including the mentoring of new graduates.
  • Supports the Hospital Manager with staff training programs and tracking CE and DVM licensure.

Financial Responsibilities

  • Drives revenue and hospital contribution growth, which includes managing all hospital expenses.
  • Assists in the preparation of an annual planning strategy, operating budget and capital budget.
  • Monitors key financial reports.

Growing the Practice

  • Drives patient visits and encourages community involvement.
  • Embraces change and supports innovative programs within the hospital.
  • Monitors client service, marketing, and NVA growth initiatives.
  • Seeks out ways to innovate operational practices that improve the growth of the practice.

Seven Oaks is a 5 doctor, small animal clinic in the North Central part of Indiana that has recently added some exotics and the occasional small ruminant to our client base. Our clinic utilizes all current amenities to include: digital x-ray with email to outside consultants and specialists, digital dental radiography, sedivue urinalysis machine, Idexx blood machines, snap tests, isoflurane gas anesthesia, two hydraulic exam room lift tables, and brand new Avimark computer software to be integrated before the year ends. Our facility has a small boarding facility and groomer on-site in addition to four exam rooms and a dedicated surgery room. Multiple surgeries (routine, emergent, and some orthopedics) are performed Monday through Friday with our doctors rotating through a set surgery schedule. The lab area also has a wet table for dental procedures to be performed. Each day, three veterinarians work together to complete appointments and surgeries. Two local emergency clinics are within a forty-five minute drive from the clinic and are utilized for after hour emergencies as needed. We like to practice as a team of doctors and consultation between cases is encouraged so that the best diagnostic results are achieved. Exchange of ideas and mentorship between doctors is very important to our clinic! Seven Oaks Veterinary Clinic is a family with not only our staff, but also our clients. The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM) invites applications for a full-time, 12-month position as a Continuing Lecturer in the Department of Veterinary Administration beginning in October 2018.  Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree, excellent communication skills, and a strong interest in teaching veterinary students.  Competency in performing basic clinical techniques in small animal species or large animal species is required.  Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience and to candidates who are competent in both large and small animal species.

The primary responsibilities of this position involve teaching in the DVM program in the problem-based learning courses as well as the clinical skills courses.  This individual may be assigned as instructor-of-record and course coordinator as appropriate.  The successful candidate will create new instructional materials including problem-based learning cases, oral examinations, and resources for the clinical skills courses.  Participation in PVM engagement activities such as summer camps is expected.  Other teaching responsibilities may be assigned as appropriate.

The strategic plan of the PVM emphasizes the importance of excellence and innovation in veterinary education that results in the graduation of career-ready veterinarians.  Instruction in the problem-based learning courses and clinical skills laboratories are important curricular components that contribute to achievement of this goal.

Small animal associate veterinarian needed at the New Carlisle Animal Clinic in New Carlisle, Indiana.  New Carlisle is a beautiful, historical, and friendly small town just east of South Bend, Indiana, home of the University of Notre Dame.  The shores of Lake Michigan are located just minutes away and downtown Chicago can be reached in just over an hour. Various sporting and cultural events are readily available.   The town and our practice are growing!

We have been part of the community for over 60 years and retain a large and loyal client base.  We are a progressive, two-doctor AAHA accredited and Feline Friendly certified small animal practice.  We provide extensive medical, behavioral, and surgical care and are equipped with digital radiology, digital dental radiology, ultrasound, therapy and CO2 surgical lasers, TTA and other orthopedic equipment, numerous fluid pumps, and several surgical monitors including CO2 levels.   In house laboratory equipment includes iStat, coagulation, and IDEXX Procyte CBC, Catalyst chemistry analyzer and UA analyzer that all integrate directly into our Avimark digital patient files.  Two area emergency clinics provide after hours and weekend coverage.  We are proud of our well-trained, compassionate, and fully leveraged support team that includes a practice manager and 4 registered veterinary technicians.  Staff to DVM ratio is 4:1 or higher.

The ideal candidate is an energetic, articulate, confident team player looking to practice high quality, compassionate medicine with an emphasis on thorough diagnostics and client education.  Besides traditional medicine and preventive care, an interest in surgery, behavior, reproduction, rehabilitation, dentistry and other fields would be a plus.   Exotic medicine could be developed if desired and other special interests will be supported.

Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for a full-time (100%, 12 month) Visiting Assistant Professor position in Mobile Surgery/Shelter Medicine.

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree, ability to practice as a licensed veterinarian in Indiana, and a minimum of one years’ experience with primary care small animal medicine and surgery.  Preference will be given to candidates with shelter medicine and HQHV surgical experience.

The successful candidate will serve as one of two veterinarians operating the mobile surgery unit (Priority4Paws) and must be eligible for Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training.  Daily responsibilities will be to provide clinical instruction to students performing spay/neuter procedures (including pediatric spays/neuters) on shelter animals as well as providing instruction and consultation on shelter management and care of shelter animals. The successful candidate will represent Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM) in the community and should be willing to educate the public on responsible pet ownership (including spay and neuter philosophy), participate in professional organizations and community service, deliver continuing education programs, and other appropriate activities. Candidates must be able to provide outstanding clinical service, possess effective interpersonal and communication skills, and have excellent teaching skills. They should be able to work collaboratively with faculty and staff and effectively engage students. Teaching responsibilities include clinical, didactic and laboratory instruction of DVM students, and veterinary technician students. The clinical commitment for this position is approximately 70-80%.  The PVM is supportive of individual faculty career growth and development.  A formal faculty-mentoring program is in place. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Performing high volume, high quality, spay/neuter surgeries, ensuring safe, effective and efficient medical processes, such as check in and post surgery follow up as needed. Applicants will need to be able to thrive in high volume, fast paced environment and training will be provided on the high-quality, high volume spay neuter technique that is required to be followed. A strong work ethic and a commitment to our clinic’s mission to reduce the unwanted pet overpopulation and promote animal health and safety to the community is required. This is a great opportunity for a full-time, mixed animal Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine (DVM) in Sparta, MI. Our practice is located just 10 minutes north of Grand Rapids and includes all of the adventure western Michigan has to offer.

We have five full time veterinarians on staff, three of whom conduct ambulatory large animal farm calls.  Our present opportunity is for an exceptional person who can excel in both large animal ambulatory work but can also enjoy small animal clinical work in our well-staffed clinic.

Approximately 75% of our large animal practice is dairy.  Pleasure horses, beef, small ruminants account for most of the rest of the calls. The small animal clinic work consists treating household pets, mostly dogs and cats.
