We are a busy multi-veterinarian small animal practice, including avian and exotic patients, in Northern Indiana and AAHA accredited for over 55 years. We have a highly trained staff, including multiple RVTs. Hillview Veterinary Clinic

Hillview Veterinary Clinic is a small animal and exotics clinic seeking a full-time registered veterinary technician.  We have four small animal veterinarians and 1 large animal mobile veterinarian.  We currently employ 5 registered technicians including a certified behavior technician.  We are “fear free certified” through Dr. Marty Becker’s program and run a low stress/behavior friendly practice.  We offer puppy kindergarten and behavior/husbandry training as well.   We have digital radiology, ultrasonography, Abaxis in-house laboratory equipment, behavioral consultations and training, and physical therapy/pain management with an underwater treadmill.  We also work with a good number of wildlife rehabilitators and treat injured birds of prey and small mammals.

We are looking for a technician comfortable with anesthesia and running a surgery suite as our current surgery tech is moving in September.   Salary and benefits are competitive and include, health/dental insurance, paid vacation and holidays, continuing education, coverage of licensing and association fees, and 401K.

Reports to:       Operations Director

Function:         Assist AHHS veterinarian during surgery and complete all surgery preparations and clean up.  Work with AHHS medical assistants to ensure all incoming pets are getting intake examinations and ill pets are receiving adequate care.

Duties:

  1. Responsible for assisting with spay/neuter surgeries for all pets deemed adoptable.
    1. Assist 30-50 surgeries per week
    2. Must be comfortable with dogs, cats, feral cats, pocket pets and reptiles.
  2. Participate in morning medical rounds with Operations team.
  3. Complete intake exams on pets arriving at AHHS.
  4. Complete other medical tasks as needed including but not limited to:  fecal flotations, subcutaneous fluids, microchipping, vaccines, skin scrapes and bandage changes.
  5. Maintain accurate medical records in PetPoint for all AHHS pets (i.e. exams, vaccinations, medications, memos).
  6. Responsible for tracking use of controlled substances.
  7. Work with AHHS veterinarian to determine best course of treatment for pets and ensure pets are receiving appropriate care.
  8. Set a professional and positive example for other staff members.
  9. Keep abreast of developments in the field of veterinary medicine, particularly the most innovative concepts of shelter medicine.
  10. Maintain the ability to work well with staff, volunteers and customers in a high-stress, busy environment.
  11. Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

Registered veterinary technician.
Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
Position includes frequent standing, bending and lifting.

Qualifications preferred:

Experience in shelter medicine
